Keeping your website up to date can be a simple as updating the small details like the design copyright notice but it’s another thing to remember and still takes time to change and update.
Fresh Date is a fully configurable widget which lets you add text and a live date to your page, helping to keep your site looking well maintained!
Browse to the location where you downloaded the widget file. Extract the contents of the file. Double-click the .mulib file to import it into the Library. This will launch Muse if it's not already open.
Alternatively, once you’ve unarchived the file, you can import the widget into the library by clicking the Import Muse Library icon at the base of the Library Panel.
Once it's imported the new widget will appear in the Library panel as a folder containing one or more items..
Start by dragging the widget onto the design canvas from the Library panel. The widget's options panel will automatically open. The default settings are shown here.
The first step is to set up the text you want to display. We're using it to automate the design copyright notice on our master page. We only need the year for this, so we've added %y after the copyright symbol. This will update the widget frame as soon as we press Enter to commit the text or move to another field in the options.
Next, we'll change the appearance of the text. This is done in the same way as any other text frame in Muse, using the Text panel. We can use any font, colour and size to match the design of the site.
The last step of setting up the widget is to put it into position and size the frame to accommodate the text. We've placed it at the base of the footer, scaling it up with its handles so the text falls on one line.
All we need to do now is preview the page to make sure it appears on the page correctly and we're ready to publish the site. We no longer need to remember to change the year, as the widget is now taking care of that for us!
That's all there is to it! Check out the Examples page where there are more demonstrations of the widget in action.
